<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hot water generator capable of detecting clogging of a filter by an inexpensive means and detecting fluctuation of the water level caused by leakage or evaporation of a water heat medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The hot water generator includes a heater, a circulation pump, and an open storage tank 4 connected by piping in series, and a control circuit for generating a hot temperature water heat medium from a low temperature water heat medium. The storage tank 4 is partitioned by a detachable filter 17 into a side having an outflow port 15 on the outgoing side and a side having an inflow port 16 on the return side. A water level detecting means 11 is provided on the side of the storage tank 4 having the outflow port 15 on the outgoing side.
