<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved prosthetic disc in the prosthetic disc for intervertebral insertion into the lumbar and the cervical vertebra. <P>SOLUTION: This prosthetic disc 10 for insertion between adjacent vertebrae includes: an upper plate 12 and a lower plate 14 each of which has an outer surface 18 installed in contact with each vertebra, an inner bearing surface and a lateral section; a core 16 between the plates, having upper and lower surfaces having complementary shape to the inner bearing surface of the plate; and formations enabling the plates to slide over the core 16, located on at least one of the core 16 and the bearing surfaces of the plates, and mutually coacting to retain the core 16 between the plates, wherein the formation has a rib 56 located at least one of the plates and a channel 54 of the core 16, and the rib 56 has the formation located in the channel 54 and anchoring the core 16 between the plates during sliding movement of the plates over the core 16. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
