Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 1 has a pair of substrates between which a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched, and transits the alignment state of the liquid crystal layer 50 from spray alignment to bend alignment to make a display. The liquid crystal layer 50 has a polymer stabilized liquid crystal layer 54 which is formed in contact with at least one of the pair of substrates and obtained by photopolymerizing a liquid crystal material containing a polymer precursor such as an ultraviolet-curable liquid crystal monomer or liquid crystal oligomer as a forming material, the polymer stabilized liquid crystal layer 54 having liquid crystal molecules aligned in a random alignment state.
