<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head manufacturing method which can remarkably reduce the defect rate of the products by achieving a magnetic head manufacturing method which can actually form possible broken magnetic poles and bent magnetic poles in advance during the period the magnetic poles and their protective layers are formed in a manufacturing process of a magnetic head. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method of arranging and forming a number of magnetic heads in a grid pattern on a wafer, the magnetic head manufacturing method has a step of forming recording magnetic poles with their ends of a predetermined shape on the base of the recording section of a magnetic head, a step of immersing the whole wafer of the magnetic heads with finished magnetic poles in a predetermined fluid and applying ultrasonic waves as an outside stress to the magnetic poles, a step of measuring the inductance of the magnetic poles, and a step of sorting out magnetic heads having the inductance lower than the predetermined threshold as defective.
