PURPOSE: An internal combustion engine and a method for operating the same are provided to prevent misfire in a preliminary chamber and lengthen the service life of an ignition device and obtain high load capacity. CONSTITUTION: In an internal combustion engine, one or more nozzles(9,10) are connected to the inside of a preliminary chamber. Before injecting combustion gas through a combustion gas nozzle, one among air or exhaust gas is injected into the preliminary chamber. The one among air or exhaust gas is mixed with lean combustion gas-air mixture in the preliminary chamber. Therefore, before injecting the combustion gas, non-ignite combustion gas-air mixture is prepared in the preliminary chamber and after injecting the combustion gas, ignite combustion gas-air mixture is prepared in the preliminary chamber. |
