PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of making up a lightning strike surge protection device using a pair of lightning-resistant discharge gap elements of a simplest form to effectively protect low-voltage electric wiring and equipment connected thereto from lightning strike surge through a combination of an insulating transformer and a zinc oxide lightning arresting element. SOLUTION: According to the method of protection against lightning strike surge, an arc lot 3 made of a highly conductive material is welded vertically to an end of a base 2, and a gap point 4 is formed on a part of arc lot 3 that is near the base 2 to form a lightning-resistant protective gap element 1. A pair of lightning-resistant protective gap elements 1 facing each other is used such that one of the elements 1 is connected to a load portion while the other to the ground. Upon receiving lightning surge, the lightning-resistant protective gap elements 1 effectively discharge lightning surge energy to the ground at the gap points 4. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
