摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform focus detection even with respect to an object having contrast information in only one direction by being capable of phase difference detection in two directions in an arbitrary position in the predetermined unit area of an imaging means. <P>SOLUTION: A focus detecting device includes: an image forming optical system 101 forming a subject image; the imaging means 107 photoelectrically converting the subject image; and a focus detecting means detecting the focusing state of the image forming optical system 101 from the pixel signal of the imaging means 107. The focus detecting means includes first focus detecting pixels S<SB>HA</SB>and S<SB>HB</SB>for receiving a luminous flux obtained by pupil-dividing the exit pupil of the image forming optical system 101 in a first direction and second focus detecting pixels S<SB>VC</SB>and S<SB>VD</SB>for receiving a luminous flux obtained by pupil-dividing the exit pupil of the image forming optical system 101 in a second direction different from the first direction. The first and second focus detecting pixels are periodically arranged in the vicinity of the grid point of a two-dimensional grid comprising a first grid line LTH group set in the predetermined unit area of the imaging means 107 and a second grid line LTV group crossing the first grid line LTH group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p>
