PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode to enhance higher luminous intensity of a cold-cathode fluorescent lamp. SOLUTION: This cup-shaped electrode, for use in the cold-cathode fluorescent lamp, is composed of a cup-shaped base material and a metal layer formed at a bottom part out of inner peripheral faces of the same. The metal layer is formed by plating and contains compound particles including oxygen and one or more kinds of metal elements selected from 1, 2 and 3 groups in the periodic table. The plated metal layer performs superior adherence to the compound particles, so that the electrode can retain the compound particles superior in discharge characteristics for a long period of time, thus enhancing high luminous intensity.
