Provided is a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium having a high recording density. Since a nonmagnetic section (8) is formed in a prescribed pattern on an auxiliary recording layer (4) formed on a magnetic recording layer (3), the magnetic recording medium, which has a magnetic section (7) and a magnetic recording layer (3) directly under the magnetic section as recording unit, is provided. Since the nonmagnetic section (8) is formed by demagnetization by ion implantation, the magnetic recording medium having a high recording density can be manufactured.
