PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary electric machine which is simple and small in constitution compared with a conventional constitution, and changeable in its characteristics. SOLUTION: The rotary electric machine having a rotor with a permanent magnet and a stator with an armature coil includes: a magnetic path constituent member which is a member for constituting the rotor and part of the stator, and serves as a magnetic path of main magnetic flux in which magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet and magnetic flux generated by the armature coil chain-cross each other; and a stress generation part 21 which applies stress in a direction which crosses the magnetic path to the magnetic path constituent member. The stress generation part 21 applies stress to the main magnetic flux magnetic path of the magnetic path constituent member (stator core 13), can change the stress according to the rotational drive state of the rotor 12, and increases the stress as the number of revolutions of the rotor 12 becomes large.
