PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device that limits the number of users who are allowed to make a reservation by mail, by using an address to prevent other users from canceling or changing the reservation. SOLUTION: A video recorder which reserves video recording based upon electronic mail transmitted from an Internet-connectable control terminal includes a storage section which stores the reservation-permission mail address of the control terminal, and a CPU which extracts a transmission source mail address when receiving video recording reservation mail from the control terminal and collates the extracted mail address with the reservation-permission mail address stored in the storage section to decide whether the video recording reservation is permitted.
