PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotor for a synchronous electric motor that reduces vibration and noise. SOLUTION: The rotor 20 for the synchronous electric motor includes a rotor iron core 1, which is formed by stacking electromagnetic steel plates and formed with each magnet insertion hole 2 along the outer peripheral edge, each permanent magnet 4 inserted into each magnet insertion hole 2 so as to compose the magnetic pole, and each outer-peripheral magnetic material region 6 formed between the outer peripheral edge of the rotor iron core 1 and each permanent magnet 4. Each nonmagnetic material region 5 is formed between the outer peripheral edge of the rotor iron core 1 and each permanent magnet 4 such that an area of each outer-peripheral magnetic material region 6 is small in the vicinity between the magnetic poles and the area is gradually increased toward the center of the magnetic pole.
