PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device capable of suppressing reduction of detection accuracy of an end edge even when a recording paper sheet is colored, for example, when an image is recorded on the recording sheet, and a recording medium position detecting means in the recording device. SOLUTION: In the recording device 1, when a recording medium P is white, a light projection part 30 of a recording medium detecting means 6 produces a larger amount of lights than an amount of lights capable of detecting presence of the white recording medium P in the recording medium detecting means 6. When there is no recording medium P in a light projecting area of the light projection part 30, a light receiving part 27 for receiving lights from the light projection part 30 should not reflect the lights projected from the light projection part 30 to a direction of a light sensor 31 of the recording medium detecting means 6.
