The invention particularly relates to a method for detecting a defect in an electric link, which comprises the steps of transmitting (100, 100'), at a first moment, an electric signal having a predetermined propagation speed from an end of the electric link, and detecting (102, 102'), at a second moment, the reception of an echo of said electric signal. The method further comprises the steps of establishing a model of the variation of the electric signal propagation speed in the electric link on the basis of the length of the link through which the signal flows, and estimating (104, 104') a first location of the defect based on the difference between the first and second moments, on the predetermined propagation speed at the start, and on the speed variation model in the link.
