PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To associate color gamuts of image devices each other so that excellent color reproduction is performed while tone gradations are maintained when color conversion is performed based on the association. SOLUTION: When there is an out-color-gamut area which is outside the color gamut of a second image device and in the color gamut of a first image device at a predetermined hue in a predetermined device independent color space, a peak value J<SB>0</SB>of a printer color gamut at the predetermined hue is detected. When a display color gamut is put close in shape to the printer color gamut, color conversion processing wherein saturation and lightness are mapped in the printer color gamut while both compressed is performed for a side of luminance higher than the peak value J<SB>0</SB>, and color conversion processing wherein saturation is compressed and mapped in the printer color gamut while luminance is held nearly constant is performed for a side of luminance lower than the peak value J<SB>0</SB>; and the correspondence between the display color gamut and printer color gamut is defined and image data of a display are converted into image data of a printer based upon the correspondence.
