A lens unit fixed inside a lens barrel frame of a lens unit and is provided with a liquid crystal lens including a liquid crystal optical element constituted of a plurality of transparent electrode plates which are held in a liquid crystal lens holder, an imaging element arranged on the image side of the liquid crystal lens, a board, an imaging element support plate, and a two-dimensional drive mechanism, and the liquid crystal lens holder includes first and second retention members. The first retention member includes a first positioning section for performing positioning in an X-Y plane perpendicular to the optical axis of the liquid crystal lens, and a second positioning section for specifying an optical axis direction. The second retention member includes a connection section covering the liquid crystal lens and connecting with the second positioning section.
