PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating wastewater with a microorganism which carries out denitrification using a nitrous ion in the wastewater etc. as a substrate. SOLUTION: In this method, a denitrification process in which nitrogen gas is produced is performed wherein the wastewater containing the nitrous ion is brought into contact with the microorganism belonging to the genus Geobacillus and having the ability to produce the nitrogen gas using the nitrous ion as the substrate in a denitrification tank 1. Before the denitrification process, the method further includes a nitrification process wherein an ammonium ion in the wastewater is nitrified to the nitrous ion in a nitrification tank 2. The method also includes an aeration process wherein the nitrogen gas is removed through aeration in an aeration tank 4 from the denitrified wastewater via the denitrification process.
