PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ship detection device and method capable of detecting the sailing of a ship and simply and inexpensively monitoring entrance of suspicious ships into monitoring waters. SOLUTION: In the ship detection method, a plurality of buoys provided with an acceleration sensor unit 11, a radio communication means for building a self-organization network, and a self-completion power source for driving these are installed in the monitoring waters, so that a signal is transmitted by the radio communication network built to notify ship sailing when a value of acceleration sensed by the acceleration sensor unit 11 is different from a predetermined normally occurring value but is a value of wave-making that accompanies sailing of the ship.
