RECEPTACLE FOR RECYCLABLES

A receptacle is disclosed having a plurality of individually removable bins for receiving and containing various types of recyclable materials. A first removable bin is used for receiving and containing compacted recyclables. A compacting jaw receives and compacts selected recyclables and deposits them into the first bin. Additional bins are included for separately receiving and containing non-compactable recyclable materials such as newspapers and glass articles. A foot pedal is actuated to cause the compacting jaw to compact the selected recyclables, and the bins and compacting mechanisms are strategically disposed and arranged to reduce receptacle volume. A deflector adjacent the compactor has a retaining position for retaining the selected recyclables in the compactor prior to compacting and a directing position for directing the recyclables into the first bin after compacting.
