PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transmissive liquid crystal display that reduces luminous energy absorbed by not only a liquid crystal panel but also a color filter and further reduces the power consumption. SOLUTION: In the transmissive liquid crystal display including a liquid crystal panel and a backlight, the liquid crystal panel is a liquid crystal panel 15 having pixels each divided into four sub-pixels of red (R), green (G), blue (B) and white (W). The backlight is a white backlight 17 by which luminance of emitted light is controllable. An RGB input signal being an original input signal is subjected to saturation/luminance reduction processing (processing to reduce only saturation if a backlight value is equal to or under a desired backlight value by reducing only the saturation, and to reduce the saturation to 0 and also reduce luminance if it is not equal to or under the desired backlight value just only by reducing the saturation) by a saturation/luminance reducing part 11 and made the RGB signal which has been subjected to saturation/luminance reduction.
