PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device capable of preventing variation in an aperture ratio of a pixel for each liquid crystal device, while securely shielding transistors of one substrate, by reducing the variation of the aperture ratio of each pixel in a display area by a shield film in the other substrate, even when a position of one substrate is shifted from the other substrate, after sticking together. SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal device including a pair of substrates facing each other, scanning lines 11a and data lines 6a are formed so as to cross each other in matrix on a thin film transistor (TFT) substrate, and semiconductor layers 1 of TFT 30 are provided at positions corresponding to crossover regions 80 of scanning lines 11a and data lines 6a. On a facing substrate, an island-like BM 25 for shielding the TFT 30 is provided in a state at least partially overlapping with the semiconductor layer 1 in plan view. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
