PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melt spinning method that produces a combined filament yarn of modified shape and modified fineness, having excellent spinning operability without causing loop and fluff, excellent passage of drawing and false twisting process and providing a fabric obtained by weaving or knitting with a dry feeling and a swelling feeling by high-speed spinning, and to provide a melt spinning apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: The method for melt spinning a combined filament yarn of modified shape and modified fineness includes, when melt spinning a combined filament yarn of modified shape and modified fineness of irrotational symmetrical shape which contains a thick fineness filament group and a thin fineness filament group in which the ratio of the number of single filaments of the thick fineness filament group to the total combined filament yarn is 5-50%, the ratio of the number of single filaments of the thin fineness filament group is 20-70%, and the cross-sectional shape of a part or the whole of the thick fineness filament substantially has a straight flat trunk part and a projection part, cooling a thermoplastic filament group melt spun from the same spinneret 1 a ring-shaped cooling device 2, making the spun yarn flow down in a straightening cover 3 enclosing the spun yarn and satisfying a specific formula, providing the spun yarn with a finishing oil by an oiling device 4 satisfying a specific formula and taking off the spun yarn at a take-off speed of 2,500-4,000 m/minute.
