A collision prediction device includes a projection unit, a detecting unit, and a determining unit. The projection unit projects a light beam toward the traveling direction of a host vehicle to create on the ground a plurality of beam spots in a specified projection pattern in which the beam spots are aligned laterally. The detecting unit detects beam spots within a detection region that is set ahead in the traveling direction of the host vehicle. The determining unit determines that there is a likelihood of collision between the host vehicle and another vehicle only if the beam spots in the specified projection pattern of the other vehicle fall within the direction region of the host vehicle.
