PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device capable of reducing influences of heat of a polarizing element on an optical modulation device.

SOLUTION: A optical device body 45A includes: an optical modulation device 451G; an exit side polarizing plate 453G; a cross dichroic prism 454; a first support member 455; a second support member 457; two spacers 458; and a planar member 459. The first support member 455 and the second support member 457 support the optical modulation device 451G. Each spacer 458 supports the exit side polarizing plate 453G. The second support member 457 and each spacer 458 are fixed via the planar member 459 to an end face 454A in an incident side of the cross dichroic prism 454 and are not in contact with each other.
