PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short arc high-pressure discharge lamp in which, when a core wire to hold an electrode and a first metal plate installed in the core wire are welded, even if a crack is caused in the welding portion, resulting high electric resistance, there arises no local heat generation. SOLUTION: The short arc high-pressure discharge lamp has a first metal plate which is welded to the other end of a core wire which holds an electrode at one end, a pillar-shape body arranged so as to be opposed to a cylindrical body interposing the first metal plate, and a plurality of metal foils which adhere to the side face of the pillar-shape body and of which one end is welded to the first metal plate. The first metal plate has a hole installed in the central part, and the other end of the core wire is inserted in the hole, and a welding portion welded to the core wire is provided along each of periphery direction of the hole on one side and the periphery direction of the hole of the other side of the first metal plate, and a conductive member is arranged between each of the welding portions and between the inner side of the hole and the outer periphery of the core wire.
