PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope having the function of a false brake preventing a curved portion from returning to a straight condition as a neutral point even if an operating knob is released with the curving portion curving. SOLUTION: The endoscope solves the problem by including a curving means to curve the curving portion, an operating means to curve the curving portion by the curving means, a driving means to curve the curving portion by the curving means, and a detection means to detect the operating force imposed on the operating means, and by imposing an operating force corresponding to an operating force detected by the detection means just before the point when the operating force imposed on the operating means reaches zero.
