PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorption device in which life of a water absorbing body is made longer by effectively suppressing the deposition of a scale on the water absorbing body. SOLUTION: The water absorption device 1 is provided with: the water absorbing body 5 a part of which is dipped in water in a water storage part 3 to take up the water in the water storage part 3 and in which at least the part dipped in the water in the water storage part 3 is made conductive; a counter electrode 6 for water absorbing body 5, which is dipped in the water storage part 3; and an electrolytic means (a pair of electrodes 20, 21 for electrolysis) for electrochemically treating the water in the water storage part 3, wherein positive potential is imparted to the conductive part of the water absorbing body 5 and negative potential is imparted to the counter electrode 26 for the water absorbing body 5.
