Provided is a method and a device for controlling the CO concentration of coke dry-quenching equipment which can retrain sharp rise of CO concentration when coke dry-quenching equipment is loaded with red-hot coke. In a method of operating coke dry-quenching equipment wherein heat is exchanged between red-hot coke and cooling gas composed of inert gas in the quenching station of coke dry-quenching equipment, air for CO combustion is blown into high-temperature cooling gas discharged from the quenching station and introduced to a boiler for heat recovery, and cooling gas discharged, after being cooled, from the boiler is circulated to the quenching station air blowing starts 150-15 sec before loading of the quenching station with coke is started with an air flow rate of 10-95 Nm3/h per second added to an air flow rate supplied during a normal operation, and then air is blown in at a rate of 0.7×Q-1.3×Q during in a period from start to end of loading of red-hot coke, where Q being an air flow rate being blown at the time when loading of red-hot coke is started.
