摘要 PURPOSE:To manufacture a metal-base composite material uniform, reduced in the variance of mechanical properties and free from impurities by subjecting whiskers or short fiber and metal powder to mutual collision, dispersion and mixing in the high-speed flow of air or gas. CONSTITUTION:In the method for mixing whiskers or short fiber such as ceramic etc. as reinforcement with metal powder as matrix for composite material, the flow of air or gas is injected at 50-1,000m/sec from an air or gas source 1 via a compressor 2 through a nozzle 5 arranged to produce a swirling flow into a mixing part 6 and on the other hand, a mixing material 3 consisting of the above reinforcement and metal powder is also introduced via a feeder 5 into the above mixing part 6. In this way, the composite material obtained by subjecting the above material 3 to collision, dispersion and uniform mixing in the high-speed air flow, etc., is recovered in a collecting part 7. It is desirable that the above whiskers or short fiber alone is previously collided and dispersed in the high-speed air flow, etc., and also it is appropriate to limit their aspect ratio and a ratio between the metal powder diameter and whisker or short fiber diameter to <=300 and <=30, respectively.
