A pneumatic tire is provided which can retain satisfactory uniformity although the tire includes superposed layers formed by winding a film layer in a circumferential direction for the tire so as to make two or more laps. Also provided is a process for producing the tire. The pneumatic tire includes superposed layers formed by winding a film layer in a circumferential direction for the tire so as to make two or more laps, the film layer comprising either a thermoplastic resin or a thermoplastic elastomer composition obtained by blending a thermoplastic resin with an elastomer. In this tire, a rubber layer has been interposed between the film layers. The process comprises: preparing a laminate comprising a film layer and a rubber layer laminated to at least one side of the film layer; winding the laminate in the circumferential direction for the tire so as to make two or more laps and interpose the rubber layer between the film layers; forming an unvulcanized tire including the film layers and rubber layer; and vulcanizing the tire.
