PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate removal of a machine plate from a plate cylinder. SOLUTION: In a plate changing method, a machine plate is removed from a plate cylinder, the machine plate whose front end is clamped by a clamping side vice installed on the outer circumference of the plate cylinder, whose rear end is clamped by a clamping tail side vice installed on the outer circumference of the plate cylinder and wound around the outer circumference thereof, and further, to which tensile force is imparted by the relative proximity movement of the clamping side vice and the clamping tail side vice. The method includes: a process of releasing the clamping of the front end of the machine plate by the clamping side vice; a process of releasing the clamping of the rear end of the machine plate by the clamping tail side vise; and a process of rotating the plate cylinder in the circumferential direction of the plate cylinder where the rear end of the machine plate faces. As a result, at first, by releasing the clamping of the front end of the machine plate by the clamping side vice, the front end of the machine plate is drawn from the clamping side vise by the action of the tensile force imparted to the machine plate. Consequently, even when the front end of the machine plate is bitten in by the clamping side vice, the machine plate can be easily removed from the plate cylinder by disengaging this biting.
