PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retrieval apparatus and retrieval method for easily retrieving and displaying an image obtained by imaging an object while using a key that becomes a feature of the object. SOLUTION: The retrieval apparatus includes: an image information storage means for storing image information of an object imaged by an imaging means; a state information storage means for making state information correspond to the image information and storing them, the state information representing a moving state of the object and being represented with a case frame including a verb representing the type of action of the object and a case element that is a noun relating to the action of the object, and indicating a semantic relation between the verb and the case element; an input accepting means for accepting input of key information for retrieving image information; a state information acquiring means for retrieving and acquiring state information including the key information from among state information on the basis of the key information; an image information acquiring means for acquiring image information corresponding to the retrieved state information from among image information; and a display means for displaying the acquired state information and image information.
