PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight mirror which is improved in weight reduction, work efficiency and safety, ensuring junction strength and coping with enlargement, and to provide a manufacturing method for the mirror. SOLUTION: The lightweight mirror comprises a plurality of core elements which are jointed to one another at circumferential joint surfaces, circumferentially extended with respect to the mirror axis and which have weight-reducing cavities with openings in a back-face side surface. Weight-reducing cavity forming work of a plurality of core element materials formed by shaping a glass material is performed simultaneously, side by side, to mutually join the plurality of core elements at the circumferential joint surfaces, thereby constituting a core to form a mirror-finished surface.
