<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light modulating device compact with a low driving voltage and a wide light modulation band and improved in characteristic impedance. <P>SOLUTION: The light modulating device comprises a substrate 1, an optical waveguide 30 formed on the substrate, and an electrode 40 provided on the substrate. The optical waveguide comprises an interactive optical waveguide in an interaction part which is a region where a refractive index is changed by applying voltage to the electrode. The interactive optical waveguide is formed, meandering in the continuous state of a differential coefficient in the longitudinal direction of the substrate, with respect to the centerline in the width direction, and the electrode is formed meandering side by side with the interactive optical waveguide, formed meandering. The length of the interaction part is long, as compared with the case of the interactive optical waveguide and the electrode being formed side by side in substantially straight lines. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
