PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a joint member which can sufficiently follow the displacement of a segment during earthquakes, the destruction of which can be prevented by absorbing the energy of the earthquakes, and which can prevent the destruction of a shield tunnel in consequence. SOLUTION: The steel segment is composed of a longitudinal rib which is arranged in the axial direction of the tunnel or a vertical shaft, and end face plates which are positioned at both the ends of the longitudinal rib, respectively. A tube for installing a male member is provided inside the end surface plate of the one segment. A tube for receiving the male member is provided inside the end surface plate of another segment. The longitudinal ribs are positioned on both the sides of the tube for the male member and those of the tube for a female member, respectively. A beam of the end surface plate is formed in such a shape that the height of the beam is great only around positions where the tube for the male member and the tube for the female member are installed.
