An apparatus and a method of processing a state preserve address configuration protocol in an IPv6 network are provided to minimize the resource usage of an IPv6 host and network load by controlling the operation of DHCPv6 client according to an address allocation policy that a network manager intends. A router(200) provides an RF(Router Advertisement) message for which an M(Managed) or O(Other) flag value is set up according to a network policy. A host(100) establishes a flag table that is configured with an entry corresponding to each router, and manages the M or O flag value of an RF message for each router. The host determines a state preserve address configuration mode based on the M or O flag value for each router.
