A system and a method for transmitting and receiving signals using multiple frequencies in a wireless communication system are provided to allow moving stations to use a plurality of frequency bands, so that the system is capable of transmitting and receiving a large amount of data. A moving station(200) performs an initial network entry procedure(201) with a base station(210). The moving station obtains a synchronization for a sub band, and performs a ranging with the base station(203). The moving station notifies the base station that an overlay mode is to be performed(205). The base station transmits a response message to the moving station(207). The moving station performs data transmitting and receiving with the base station(209).
