PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device of a passenger conveyor capable of adequately generating an alarm to a user leaning outside a handrail, and preventing persons normally using the passenger conveyor from feeling uncomfortable. SOLUTION: The safety device comprises a position detector having a detection area in the longitudinal direction of a passenger conveyor along the outer side of a handrail 4 to detect the position of an object invading the detection area in the longitudinal direction of the passenger conveyor, a plurality of alarm generators which are provided at an optional spacing in the longitudinal direction of the passenger conveyor to generate an alarm, and a control means which selects the alarm generator in a vicinity of the detection position of the object out of the plurality of alarm generators to generate an alarm when the position detector detects the position of the object in the longitudinal direction of the passenger conveyor.
