PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display device capable of uniformizing display brightness in the whole screen, and capable of reducing electric power consumption while securing high quality. SOLUTION: The plasma display device has a plasma display panel with a plurality of discharge cells having a display electrode comprising a scanning electrode and a maintaining electrodes. The device constitutes one field of a plurality of subfields, and includes a writing period for generating writing discharge by the selected discharge cell, and a maintaining period for applying a maintaining pulse at a frequency in response to a brightness weight, by the selected discharge cell, to generate maintaining discharge, in each subfield. The maintaining pulse is constituted to change a leading-up time with a period of an odd number of frequency. Timing of generating the discharge is thereby prevented from being dispersed in each discharge cell, in the maintaining discharge, and the display quality from getting worse by ununiformity of the brightness.
