PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image of a tracking pattern for tracking an image formation source on a paper sheet and to prevent a pattern from being conspicuous, the pattern being generated by tracking pattern dots in a side face of a bundle of image-formed paper sheets. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image reader 20 for receiving image data; a tracking pattern generating section which generates a tracking pattern in which a plurality of tracking pattern dots constituted of a plurality of print dots are disposed within a predetermined block; a superimposing section for superimposing the tracking pattern on the image data; an image forming section 40 for forming an image on the paper sheet based on the image data on which the tracking pattern is superimposed; and a superimposing position control section which controls a superimposing position of the tracking pattern on the image data so as to deviate the superimposing position more than a width of the tracking pattern dots when forming images on a plurality of pieces of paper sheets.
