PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine capable of performing free-motion sewing at preset stitching pitch, and capable of appropriately feeding a fabric to be worked at a sewing speed set by a user according to the skill of the user. SOLUTION: In the free-motion sewing, the quantity of movementΔP and the preset stitching pitch p are compared. When it is determined that the quantity of movementΔP of a moving table 11 is equal to or larger than the stitching pitch p (a step S23; Yes), an X-axis brake motor and a Y-axis brake motor are simultaneously controlled in such a way as unrotatable (a step S24).
