<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane-electrode assembly which is excellent in durability and has high output voltage, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The membrane-electrode assembly for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell includes a solid polymer electrolyte membrane 12, a first frame 14 arranged on a peripheral edge section of the first surface of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane 12, a second frame 16 arranged on a peripheral edge section of the second surface of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane 12, a first electrode 22 having a first catalyst layer 18 and a first gas diffusion layer 20, and a second electrode 28 having a second catalyst layer 24 and a second gas diffusion layer 26. When manufacturing the membrane-electrode assembly 10 wherein an inner edge section of the first frame 14 is located between the first catalyst layer 18 and the first gas diffusion layer 20 and an inner edge section of the second frame 16 is located between the solid polymer electrolyte membrane 12 and the second catalyst layer 24, The first frame 14 is arranged on the peripheral edge section of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane 12 after forming the first catalyst layer 18 by coating a coating liquid including a catalyst and an ion-exchange resin on the first surface of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
