PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder allowing recording up to an end part of a recording medium without generating a blank space, and capable of restraining the amount of recording agent used for the recording outside of the edge of the recording medium. SOLUTION: A light reflection type paper detecting sensor 10 arranged in a subscanning-directional downstream of a recording head 121 detects both end positions in a width direction (main scanning direction) of a paper sheet (paper roll) P by moving a carriage 122 along the main scanning direction. The recorder sets a printing range (ink injection allowance range) A spread outward by a distance x from the detected both end positions, when conducting frameless printing. The recorder sets a wider printing range B added with a long margin distance y to the both end positions when the paper sheet P is imagined to be positioned in an ideal position with no skewing and no width-directional shift, when the both end positions of the paper sheet P cannot be specified by the paper detecting sensor 10 because of an influence of a printing image onto a light reflection quantity from the paper sheet P.
