The fuel cell is characterized in that the metal specific surface area of the cathode catalyst as determined by CO pulse adsorption is larger than the metal specific surface area of the anode catalyst as determined by CO pulse adsorption. Consequently, the output characteristics of a fuel cell using a high-concentration fuel can be improved.
