The invention enables fast locking of a phase-locked loop on a clock derived from a data stream, where the phase-locked loop is adapted to locking on a data streams within a wide range of frequencies, and where the data stream is subject to jitter introduced by a transport network. The invention relates more particularly to a method of receiving data over a network. It comprises a step of extracting a service clock from time-stamped packets (1001) received from such a network, a step of extraction of bit rate information (1002) representative of a data stream, a step of locking a phase-locked loop (1003) on the service clock that comprises the use of the bit rate information to reduce the phase-locked loop locking time.
