A gene or protein of synoviolin is provided to obtain a kit for diagnosing temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) and screen a material for treating or preventing TMJD. A kit of diagnosing temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) comprises probe or primer having complementary sequence of synoviolin gene of the sequence number 1. A method for screening the material for preventing or treating temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJD) comprises: a step of contacting a sample to be analyzed, which containing gene or protein of synoviolin; and a step of measuring the activity or amount of synoviolin protein, and expression amount of synoviolin gene.
