<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information distribution system capable of guaranteeing that all pieces of content information given to the information distribution system can be distributed, while keeping facility costs from significantly increasing, and a method of regulating the number of duplicate pieces of content information in the system. <P>SOLUTION: The information distribution system includes a plurality of terminal devices and a plurality of distribution servers for transmitting content information that matches requests from the terminal devices. The system detects the number of distribution servers that retain the content information.
