PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle periphery video display can contributing to safety driving avoiding an approaching object beforehand by notifying a driver, intuitively and easily to recognize, about a recognition result of the approaching object without disturbing driving, in spite of inexpensive system configuration. SOLUTION: A vehicle periphery video display includes: an on-vehicle camera 1 mounted on a present vehicle for imaging the periphery of the vehicle; a monitor 2 set at a position visible for a driver; and a monitor video generation control unit 3 for generating an output video image to the monitor 2 on the basis of an input video image from the on-vehicle camera 1. The monitor video generation control unit 3 detects an approaching object 4 relatively approaching the present vehicle on the basis of the input video image from the on-vehicle camera 1, replaces the detected approaching object 4 with an icon image 5 symbolically representing the approaching object 4, displays the icon image 5 in a screen peripheral area preset on a display screen 6 of the monitor 2, and generates an output video image to be displayed in such a way that the icon image 5 moves on the screen peripheral area in accordance with movement of the approaching object 4.
