PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tonneau cover device ensuring sufficient operability by certainly retaining a tonneau cover drawn out from a winding device. SOLUTION: The tonneau cover for covering an upper part of a baggage chamber of an automobile is drawn out from the winding device, and a projection provided on a distal end part is engaged with a recession groove (engagement part) 23 of a tonneau cover retaining mechanism 1. The recession groove 23 is formed on a pivot member 20. A cam contact element 24 is formed on the pivot member 20 and is relatively moved along a cam groove 41 of a pivot cam member 30. When the cam contact element 24 is retained to a retaining position 44 of the cam groove 41, the recession groove 23 is arranged in a position opposed to a guide rail (removal prevention member), and removal of the projection from the recession groove 23 is prevented.
