The towing vehicle (10) has an additional steering angle at a rear axle of the towing vehicle. The additional steering angle is selected out of two categories by a selecting mechanism. The two categories have a backup steering angle in opposite direction to a predetermined steering angle (20) for supporting a driver during maneuvering the towing vehicle. A stabilizing steering angle is provided for stabilizing a reversing of the towing vehicle with a trailer (12) or a semi-trailer. An independent claim is included for a method for supporting a driver during maneuvering the towing vehicle for a trailer or semi-trailer.
